I argue the narcissism of Brokeback is smoothed under by the the gay cowboy backdrop. I was never convinced of their homosexuality. The film glorified men running from responsibility to have anal sex with another man. If this story involved a man and a woman having an affair over the years and subsequently leaving their children and spouses… It would not get the same reviews.
